LAUGHTER FOR SENIORZ

There’s only so many Zumba classes you can take, so why not treat yourself, or your community, to something unique? A memoir class with a professional writer, the chance to write the story or stories of their lives. Or if joke writing is more their pleasure, we also offer a Stand up class just for people who have a strong point of view from a life well-lived.

“Nursing home management should integrate laughter therapy into health care and laughter therapy should be provided as a routine nursing intervention.”

Journal of Clinical Nursing 2016

MEMOIR CLASS FOR SENIORZ

DESCRIPTION

In this on-going series of hour long workshops, participants are prompted by specific questions to recount the most significant events of their lives. In jogging their memories this way, smaller and more intimate moments are often revealed too. The written stories in these classes unfold like great novels told by the people who lived through them, each a unique piece of history. Another benefit of these meetings are the relationships, and sense of community that participants gain, a much welcome by-product of sharing the details of their lives.

While changes in humor may be an early sign of dementia, humor also has strong healing power. For a first-person perspective on how comedy helped our founder Dani’s mother, see this story from AARP Bulletin. (AARP, June 2018).
